Paraguay international Miguel Almiron has been in good form since pre-season started this summer. Almiron and his Newcastle United teammates are presently preparing for the new season which starts in the first week of next month. Paraguay national team attacking midfielder Almiron began pre-season this summer with a brace in the 5-1 win over Gateshead in a friendly game played behind closed doors on Saturday, July 9.Gateshead travelled the short distance to face the Magpies and they were handed a big defeat.


Matt Ritchie scored the opener at home to Gateshead just after the half-hour mark. His goal gave Newcastle United the lead at the half-time interval. Brazilian attacker Joelinton added a second goal for the hosts from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half before Paul Blackett halved the deficit around the midway point of the second half. Paraguay international Almironadded two goals in nine minutes to give Newcastle United a 4-1 lead. The first of his brace came on 80 minutes before he completed his double with a minute left on the clock. There was still time left on the clock for English midfielder Sean Longstaff to seal the result with his goal on the stroke of full-time.

After the Gateshead game, Almiron and his fellow Newcastle United players embarked on a pre-season tour of Austria. In their first pre-season game, Almiron didn’t score as Newcastle United scored three times in the second half to beat 1860 Munich 3-0 during the game played on Friday. Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimares were all the scoresheet for the Magpies.

In their final friendly game in Austria, Delano Burgzorg scored in the second half to hand German Bundesliga side Mainz 05 a 1-0 win over Newcastle United thus handing the Premier League team their first defeat of pre-season this summer. Paraguay international Almiron was unable to prevent the Magpies from being beaten by their German opposition.
