Paraguay star Miguel Almiron played eighty minutes of the Premier League clash between his Newcastle United side and hosts Manchester City, but he could not stop his team from being beaten heavily by the defending champions. The Paraguay international was helpless as Manchester City thumped Newcastle United 5-0 at home to move three points clear in the race for the Premier League title.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe didn’t play Paraguay international Almiron regularly at the start of his managerial reign at the club towards the end of last year. The former Burnley and Bournemouth boss was named the new Newcastle United manager in October 2021 in the place of the sacked Steve Bruce. Paraguay attacking midfielder Almiron is getting a run in the Newcastle United starting XI mainly due to the injury to Scottish winger Ryan Fraser who might not play again this season.

For the trip to the Etihad Stadium, it took just 19 minutes for home team Manchester City to take the lead with England international Raheem Sterling getting the goal off the assist from versatilePortuguese fullback Joao Cancelo. City doubled the lead on 38 minutes thanks to French-born Spanish international Aymeric Laporte. The goals from Sterling and Rodri gave the Premier League holders a 2-0 lead at the halftime break. Manchester City sealed the win with the third goal from Spanish midfielder Rodri Hernandez. At that stage, the destination of the three points was certain.

Jacob Murphy came on for Paraguay international star Almironwith ten minutes left on the clock and City still had time to score two more goals to make it a thumping win. Phil  Foden came off the bench to add a fourth goal for them on the stroke of fulltime before Sterling wrapped up the win in the third minute of stoppage time.
