Paraguay are through to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Copa America tournament in Brazil after their win over Chile. Paraguay beat Chile 2-0 on Thursday night to end their unbeaten run and also leapfrog them on the Group A standings. The victory catapulted Paraguay above their opponents into second place behind leaders Argentina, while Chile dropped from second to third as a result.

The Paraguayans took the lead through BraianSamudio on 33 minutes to give his team a slim lead at the half-time break. Newcastle United player Miguel Almiron wrapped up the points for Paraguay just before the hour mark. Almiron scored a second goal for Paraguay from the penalty spot. The goal from Almiron ensured that Chile ended their group campaign in defeat.

Argentina lead the other four teams in Group A with seven points from three games ahead of the final game against Bolivia who have zero point from three matches. Paraguay have moved to second place on the log as established earlier with six points from three matches and they can seal top spot if they beat Uruguay in their last group game on Monday and Argentina fail to beat the Bolivians on the same day.

Uruguay are fourth on the table with four points from three games and a point from Chile who are in third position on the group standings. The Chileans have five points from their four games in Group A and can’t finish higher than third position. Uruguay will get third place ahead of Chile if they can secure at least one pointagainst the Paraguayans.
